The delegation led by Commissioner Dr.Daw Than Nwe and composed of Commissioner U Soe Phone Myint, deputy directors Dr.Khine Khine Win and U Thura Kyaw from the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission participated in the Workshop on Business, Human Rights and the Environment held in Bangkok, Thailand from 8th to 10th April 2015.
The Workshop was organized by Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) and 22 representatives including some Commissioners from the Human Rights Commissions of Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines and East Timor participated in the Workshop.
The aim of the Workshop is to focus on exploring the role of NHRIs in promoting and protecting Human Rights relating to business and environment and to provide the participants with a deeper understanding of how different professionals approach the topic of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in general and human rights and business.
Mr.Radu Mares, Associate Professor (RWI) acted as a resource person of the Workshop. At Workshop, Dr.Nirum Phitakwatchara, Commissioner form Thailand National Human Rights Commission made a presentation on the topic of the inter- linkages in Koh Kong case and the co-operation with CSOs; Deputy Secretary of Malaysia National Human Rights Commission Ms.Nuaral Hasanah Ahamed presented on the topic of the Developing a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (Case Study), and Ms.Jannie Lesimbang, former Commissioner of Malaysia National Human Rights Commission, discussed on the Inter-Linkages and the Effect on Indigenous People.
At the Workshop, participants discussed on the implementation of National Action Plan in countries in respect of the UN Guiding Principle on Business and Human Rights(UNGPs), International Human Rights Instruments, International Labour Conventions, bilateral trade agreements and human rights, investment laws and human rights.
